I should add to the below post...
but I felt it deserved an entry of its own as it asks its own questions.

My vision test for the physical... ... let's just say my eyes need each other. He had me cover my left eye and the entire chart was blury... I tried to decypher the 8th, 7th, 6th and 5th lines on the chart, in that order... I may have gotten a couple letters right. He then had me cover my right eye, to much of the same result. Then he had me read line 6 of the chart with both eyes -- backwards and forwards -- and I had almost no problem (though it was still a little blurry).

Something tells me that my days of near-perfect vision are coming to a close rather soon. I should have expected it. Both of my parents have needed corrective lenses since they were my age or younger. Rather surprising that my vision was so good for so long, actually.

I'm thinking I should see an optometrist to figure out whether I need glasses, or whether my eyes are compensating for each other appropriately (e.g. what if this compensation is hurting them more in the long run and I'd save my vision from falling completely apart if I started correcting my vision now to prevent my eyes having to compensate for each other... etc). I haven't been able to figure out whether my health insurance covers vision... so I'm assuming it doesn't (as when I was working, vision was separate coverage that we had to elect and pay for separately, though it was significantly cheaper... something like $4/month).

But yeah. Thoughts? Do I need to rush to an optometrist? Should I just plan to consider going to one? Or am I being silly even considering it at all? :)

If you're covered, do go to an opto. It's better to be checked and not need it than need it and not be checked...

My eyes are like exactly like that. I can see perfectly fine with both of them. But I've had glasses for over 2 years now. Why? because they do help. I find, especially with reading or driving when my eyes are focused at one distance for a long period of time, they get tired. When eyes are tired, they get strained. From what my optometrist said, the strain doesn't permanently lead to damage, but it can cause headaches. So I would get checked out. At least that way the optometrist has a baseline for where you're at and you can get checked again in a year's time to see if there is any change.
